William "Bill" R. Mitchell, 65, formerly of Mechanicsburg, died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on May 4, 2016 following a 2-year battle with small cell carcinoma.
Born on January 5, 1951 to Robert F. Mitchell and Wilma (Scott) Mitchell, Bill grew up in Glasford, Illinois. He attended Illini Bluffs High School and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1973 with a degree in political science. He worked as a systems analyst for CACI, Inc. for over 25 years.
Bill and his wife, Ann (Kronholm) Mitchell, met in college. After marrying in 1974, they left their home state and settled in Mechanicsburg, where they lovingly raised three children. He immensely enjoyed life with his family – spending time in the pool, rooting for Illinois sports teams, and planning sports road trips. Bill's interests included golf, Civil War history and literature, and his beloved Cubbies. (May this be their year!)
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughter Megan Cline, wife of Brian Cline (Mechanicsburg, PA), and their three children – Brooks, Audrey, and Bennet Cline; his daughter Melissa Mitchell (Harrisburg, PA); and his son Robert Mitchell (New Cumberland, PA). He is also survived by his mother, Wilma (Scott) Mitchell (Glasford, IL), and sisters: Bobbi Ziegler, wife of Larry Ziegler (Glasford, IL), and their children, as well as Jenifer Schafer, wife of Steve Schafer (Glasford, IL), and their children.
Family and friends will celebrate Bill's life on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 with a short visitation at Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, beginning at 11:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 PM. A fellowship luncheon will follow at a near-by local restaurant.
