Obituary

Steven Ray Plank of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away at the age of 69 on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his family in his home. Steve graduated from Cumberland Valley High School in 1975 and was always proud that both of his daughters were CV graduates and was excited that his grandchildren would soon enter the district as well. Steve's love of nature led him to Penn State Mont Alto where he earned his associate's degree in forestry and served on the volunteer forest fire crew. Following graduation, Steve served as a park ranger at East Branch Lake in Elk County and at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Farm in Gettysburg. Steve spent many decades working at IBM in Mechanicsburg and as a school policeman for the Mechanicsburg Area School District, where he made many lasting friendships. Steve's most important roles in life were as a son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished time with his wife of 36 years, catching up with his daughters, doting on his two grandchildren, and bonding with the family Boston Terriers. Even in his final days, Steve was always focused on remaining positive and taking care of his family.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel A. Plank and Mary E. (Beard) Plank, and his brother, Jeffrey L. Plank. He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. (Costello) Plank, daughter Holly M. Plank, Toledo, Ohio; daughter Amy N. (Plank) Tice and husband Jimmy, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; sister Sharon K. (Plank) Ladyka, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and brother Ed Plank, Duncannon, Pennsylvania. Steve was a proud "Grandpapa" to his grandchildren, Cecilia and James Tice. He also had a supportive extended family.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St. Camp Hill, PA 17011.
