Shirley L. Hughes of Messiah Lifeways, formerly of Wormleysburg, PA and Stuart, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 92.

Shirley was born on September 1, 1931, the daughter of the late Gustave and Irene Larson. Raised in Pittsburgh, Shirley graduated from Mount Lebanon High School and Carnegie Mellon University.

In 1955, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, the late Carlton E. Hughes, who became her loving husband of 62 years.

A home economist, Shirley had an early career demonstrating electrical appliances for Duquesne Light Electric Co. She was a member of the Junior League of Harrisburg, volunteered for Crippled Children and is a member of the service and philanthropic organization, PEO. Her most important role in life was that of a devoted wife and loving mother.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Carlyn Chulick and husband Frank of Wormleysburg, PA, two grandsons, Carlton Chulick of Wormleysburg and Travis Chulick and wife Nicole of Houston, TX along with great-granddaughters, Carolyne Jane, and Reagan Olivia. The oldest of four girls, Shirley is survived by two sisters, Ingrid Floor of Cincinnati OH, and Ruth Sarokon and husband Stephen of Mechanicsburg, PA. Additionally, Shirley was preceded in death by sister Ilene Badke of Salinas, CA. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Shirley's devoted caregiver, Michelle Megonnell, for whom she had great affection.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 am on Friday, July 5th at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA. Viewing will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will be at Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA with a reception to follow at West Shore Country Club, Camp Hill PA. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Baker Funeral Home.
