Ronald Kunz's Obituary
Ronald Peter Kunz, 78, of Camp Hill, passed away on January 23, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
"Ron," born in Harrisburg on October 15, 1936, was the son of Peter and Kathryn (Hirsch) Kunz (both deceased). He was also preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Carole (Fissel) Kunz and his stepfather Clarence Stambaugh.
Ron is survived by his wife of 13 years, Lauralee (Over) Kunz, who was also his high school sweetheart and reunited with him in later years; his son Ron and daughter-in-law Peggy; grandsons Eric and Ryan; and his sisters Nancy Pinko and Fay Nelms.
A 1954 graduate of William Penn High School, Ron served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962, an honor graduate in the Army's Engineer-Ordnance School. In 1964, he began his impressive 39-year career in Plant Engineering with United Parcel Service, a place he credited for introducing him to some of his very best lifelong friends.
Ron, who always regretted that he was only 12 years old when his own father died, provided the perfect combination of father, mentor and best friend to his only son Ronald Peter II. He was a hero to his two grandsons who will never forget his signature stuffed meatloaf, how they enjoyed watching him consistently lose his sunglasses on the Camp Hill Pool slide last summer, the breakfasts they had together every Saturday morning and his ability to provide the very best yearly beach vacations.
Ron's "Salt-of-the-Earth" demeanor, combined with his intellect and amazing sense of humor, gave him the unique ability to get along with everyone. In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking, gardening, repairing just about everything, hanging out with his friend Jay Klinger and tinkering with cars, dining at the Lower Allen Veteran's of Foreign Wars Club, where he was a member, and vacationing in Florida with his wife Lauralee.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday January 29, 2015 in Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill. A visitation with his family will be held on Thursday in the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be held in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Four Diamonds fund.
