Roger Geertz
Gonzalez
Feb 3, 1969 — Dec 1, 2023
On December 1st, our beloved Roger passed away surrounded by his family.
Roger was born in Hamburg, Germany where he lived with his mother Margrit Geertz and his father Nelson Gonzalez. At the age of three, Roger moved to Miami Florida, where he was raised along with siblings by his Stepmom Maria Elena Gonzalez. Roger has resided in Pennsylvania since 2013, where he lived with his wife and stepson.
Roger attended the University of Miami, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English. After completing his studies, he attended Florida Atlantic University where he obtained a Master's Degree in Language and Linguistics. Roger then attended Penn State University where he acquired his first PhD in Higher Education. In 2021, Roger completed his second PhD in Data Science and analytics at Harrisburg University. Roger's research contributions in Higher Education and Data Science will continue his legacy of a search for knowledge.
During his life, along with a passion for education, Roger also enjoyed practicing Aikido, a Japanese martial art. Roger was able to accomplish a 5th degree black belt and Shidoin. Roger practiced Aikido for over 20 years of his life and was passionate about sharing his knowledge of the martial art with others.
Roger was an avid runner and hiker. During his life, Roger ran multiple 5Ks, 10Ks, Half marathons and one marathon. When attending college, he also taught gymnastics.
We will always remember Roger for all the times he made us laugh with his silly jokes, for all the reflection we did during our conversations, for all the wisdom he shared with us, and for all the love he has always shared with us. We will remember that as much as he loved being active, running, walking, and hiking, he also enjoyed taking time to relax on his blue couch with a good action movie.
Roger is survived by his wife, Ana Soto, his stepson John Willshier, his father, Nelson Gonzalez, his brother Alex Gonzalez, and his sister Giselle Gonzalez.
