Obituary

Robert J. Groves 78, of Mesa, Arizona passed away peacefully in his sleep after a short illness on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Born June 5, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert S. and Lois M. (Starr) Groves.

Robert was a Graduate of Quaker Valley High School. He received a degree in finance from Geneva College in 1968. After college Robert was drafted into the Army as an MP and served at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Company (FDIC) as a bank examiner and worked his way up to Field Supervisor. After retirement from FDIC he moved to Arizona with his family. Unable to enjoy his golden years he decided to go back to work and was employed as a Vice President at Northern Trust. Bob was a Deacon and long-standing member at Paxton Presbyterian church in Harrisburg, PA., and a member of the Cadillac LaSalle Club. Bob was an avid Steelers football fan, he enjoyed going to Bingo with family and friends when they visited AZ. He loved to collect a tee shirt from any event he attended, he had an extensive train collection and enjoyed going to car shows to show off his 1941 and 1971 Cadillacs. Every year he made it back east to spend time with his grandchildren and attend the Hershey car show with them. Bob always made an effort to stay in contact with his former church family and coworkers whenever he was in town. He always enjoyed a good steak and a cold Yuengling beer. Bob always had a terrible joke or cliché to unleash which made him so beloved. He had a talent for always lighting up the room especially when he would dress up like Santa Clause and drive around sunny AZ in his convertible Cadillac.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 49 Years Diana K (Voss) Groves. He is survived by a daughter, Lisa and her husband Christopher, of New Cumberland, PA, two sons, Robert J. Groves, of Mesa, AZ, and Thomas A Groves, of Mesa, AZ, two brothers, David and his wife Sandra Groves, of Morgantown, WV, and Thomas Groves, of Apache Junction, AZ, two grandchildren, Logan & Lola Williams and numerous close cousins, nieces, and nephews.
