Robert Brown's Obituary
Robert F. Brown, of Camp Hill, passed away on Saturday July 22, 2017 at the West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
Born on December 26, 1924 in Sayre, PA, he was the son of the late Franklin I. and Hettie (Johnson) Brown, and second mother, Mabel Liddiard Weir Brown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Guelda M. Brown, and a brother, Leland R. Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel J. (Brobst) Brown, and a daughter, Joyce A. Brown, both of Hampden Township; a sister, Betty S. Hoover, of Carthage, MO; and a brother, Edward L. Brown, of Muldoon, TX.
Robert was a graduate of Sunbury High School, Class of 1942. After high school, he joined the US Army. He served during WWII in the 88th division, 351st Infantry, Cannon Co. Robert spent 322 days in combat, serving in Italy and North Africa. He received the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon – with three battle stars, a Combat Infantryman Badge, a WWII Victory Medal, and a Bronze Star.
Robert came to Harrisburg to work for Louis Lehrman and Son. He went on to help build the Rite Aid Corporation, where he retired as Vice President and Treasurer after 38 years. He was a member of Mount Calvary Episcopal Church, Camp Hill. Robert was a lifetime member of both the American Legion Post #143, New Cumberland, and the West Shore Elks Lodge #2257. He was also a member of the West Shore Country Club, and VFW Post 6704, Mechanicsburg. He was a Mason at Lowther Manor Lodge #781 F.& A.M., 32nd ° Consistory, and Shriners International.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 29, 2017 at Mount Calvary Episcopal Church, 125 N. 25th St., Camp Hill. A visitation with his family will be held in the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Myers-Harner Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hazel J. Brobst and Robert F. Brown Scholarship, Susquehanna University, 514 University Ave., Selinsgrove, PA 17870, which gives preference to students from Cumberland Co., or to Mount Calvary Episcopal Church, 125 N.25th St., Camp Hill, PA 17011
