Richard F. Miller, 90, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away with his family by his side, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle, PA.
Born on February 20, 1934, in Graceham, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Evelyn (Rose) Miller.
Dick was a 1954 graduate of Camp Hill High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Dick retired in 1999 as a Materials Handler with the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot. He was a 77-year member of the Camp Hill Church of God. He served on the Church Council as a Trustee, a Deacon, an Elder, was a Sunday School Teacher and loved singing in the church choir. He was an Elementary School Youth Group Leader, a Mason with Lowther Manor Lodge # 781 and Harrisburg Consistory, and a member of the American Legion Post 43, Camp Hill.
Dick loved sports of any kind, whether it was watching, playing or coaching. He played football, basketball, baseball, softball and loved to bowl. He coached baseball for Camp Hill and girls softball for the Mechanicsburg Girls Softball Association for many years, was a volunteer fireman for the Camp Hill Fire Department for close to 20 years, and a camp counselor at Camp YoLiJWa. Dick loved spending summers on his grandparent's farm as a child and often told stories of playing basketball in the barn with a peach basket as a hoop. He also loved being a grandpa and loved teasing and joking with people.
Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy L. (Ross) Miller, of Mechanicsburg, a daughter, Kimberly Wenrich, of Mechanicsburg, PA, a grandson, Jared Miller, of Mechanicsburg, PA, a granddaughter, Jessica Sacedor and her husband Ray, of Camp Hill, and one great grandchild on the way, a sister-in-law, Joanne Croumer, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles W. and James R. Miller, and a sister, Kathryn E. Zink.
A visitation with Dick's family will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in the Camp Hill Church of God, 123 N. 21st, Camp Hill, PA. A Masonic service will be held in the church at 10:50 A.M. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor George Spangler and Pastor Brad Moore officiating. Interment with military honors by the Cumberland County Honor Guard will be held following the service in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Service, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Hill Church of God.
