Pauline B. Shumaker Walters, 90, of Mechanicsburg died December 31 2015. She was born in Fairview Township, York County on October 3 1925, the daughter of Dallas M Shumaker and Anna E. Bobb Shumaker.
One of seven Shumaker children, her six brothers Wayne, Eugene, Gerald, Roland, Eldred and Neil have all predeceased her.
Polly attended Messiah Academy and Messiah Junior College, Grantham, earning her degree in 1943. Continuing her education she matriculated at Dickinson College where she was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree in June 1945.
She taught school for several years initially at Blain Vocational School and later in Downingtown Pennsylvania.
On June 26 1948 she married Murrel R. Walters Jr to whom she was married for sixty two years until his death in October 2010.
She is the mother of four, grandmother of twelve and great-grandmother of two. Surviving is son Murrel R. Walters III, his wife Kay of Boiling Springs and their children Nora Duncan (her children Adelaide and Leyton), Evan and Emma; daughter Gema R. Weigel, her husband Philip of Dillsburg and their children Cybil, Lauren, Dallas and Renee; son Von R Walters of Nashville, TN and his children Erica and Alexander; and son Justin R Walters and his wife Kim of Carlisle and their children Anna, Abigail and Avery.
Polly is a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, 117 West Keller St., Mechanicsburg PA. A viewing will be held at St. Mark on Saturday January 9 2016 at 10 am with services at 11 am and reception following in the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stone Church Cemetery, Silver Spring Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Mark Church.
