Michael "Whale" William Allen, 61, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania peacefully departed this life surrounded by family on Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at Pinnacle Health West Shore Hospital. Mike was born on October 5th, 1954 in Peterborough, New Hampshire. He was the son of the late Carroll Lynn and Elinor Parmenter (Curtis) Allen and was the youngest of four children. Raised in Temple, New Hampshire, he was an avid baseball player. He played both in school and for local teams as an adult. In 1972, he graduated from Contoocook Valley Regional High School in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Mike worked in a steel factory in New Hampshire. He and his wife, Virginia, raised their family in a home on Pearly Pond in Rindge. He enjoyed ice fishing, snowmobiling, watching his sons play ice hockey, and coaching baseball. In 1991, after camping at various places throughout the northeast, he moved his family to the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania in search of better schools for his children. Once his children were grown, he operated and owned a food truck and a pizza place in addition to being a warehouse manager. Later, he moved to Pottsville to work for Electrolux as a warehouse manager. He retired from there and returned to Mechanicsburg. He graciously accepted the nickname "Pap" when his grandchildren were born. He enjoyed spending time with them and watching them grow. He liked listening to music, playing games, watching sports, and shooting pool. He loved his Jeep, his air-boat, and anything involving the water. He will be remembered as an intelligent man who loved family, fishing, the Patriots, and living life to the fullest. "Pap" was the loving father of Christopher Allen and his wife, Criste, of Virginia; Kiel Allen and his wife, Melissa, of Pennsylvania; Troy Dorais and his wife, Jessica, of North Carolina; and Shane Dorais of Colorado. He was the proud grandfather of Byron, Madison, Kaden, Alana, Daniel, Noah, Garrett, and Tristan. He is survived by two sisters: Pat (and Francis) McKenna and Susan (and Peter) Bohan both of New Hampshire, and one brother, Jim Allen who resides in Arkansas. Also surviving are his former spouse Virginia Cefole (nee Berardi); his significant other Ruthann Helm; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to give special Thanks to the staff at Pinnacle Health West Shore Hospital, Hershey Medical Center, Golden Living Center, and Compassionate Care Hospice for providing his care in recent months.
