Mary Higgins Langan, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on December 21, 2014 at Messiah Village Lifeways surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born August, 1915 in Pottsville, PA to the late John W. and Catherine Mier Higgins. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Leonard Langan as well as her brothers John, James, Joseph and Robert Higgins.
Mary graduated from Pottsville Catholic High School in 1933 and Chestnut Hill College in 1937. She was the first woman graduate from the School of Insurance of the U.S. Fidelity & Guaranty Company in 1938. After her graduation and certification in U.S.F. & G., she joined her father's practice in Pottsville and was with Higgins Insurance Agency until her marriage to J. Leonard Langan. After her marriage Mary created a satellite insurance office in her home in Pittston, PA. She continued in this profession from 1948 until the family moved to Camp Hill in 1968. Following this move, she became heavily involved in Good Shepherd Church activities and local community functions. Mary's many involvements included Silver Sneakers, Meals on Wheels, Holy Spirit Women's Auxiliary, and volunteering at local retirement homes. She loved playing bridge with her close friends on a weekly basis. She travelled extensively from the USA to Canada, the Far East, Australia, and many countries in Europe. Her vitality and love of life coupled with her compassion and sense of humor stayed with her well into her 90's.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Higgins Deacon of Boynton Beach, FL; her daughter, Kathleen Kaminski and husband William of Blue Ridge Summit, PA; her sons Thomas A. Langan and wife Nora of Mechanicsburg, PA; J. Leonard Langan, Jr. and wife Eileen of Claremont, FL; John H. Langan of Lansdowne, PA; Michael P. Langan and wife Fran of Mechanicsburg, PA; Robert J. Langan and wife Patricia of Camp Hill, PA. Mary had 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 29th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Good Shepherd Church fellowship hall. A Memorial Mass will follow in the Sanctuary at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Church, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA. 17011.
