Mary Linden Keefer of Camp Hill passed away Tuesday December 24, 2019, with her daughter Kathleen by her side, at Country Meadows Retirement Community in Mechanicsburg.
Born in Plains, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Susan Linden and widow of Joseph J. Keefer, who passed away in 1977.
Mary grew up in Pottsville, PA and graduated from Pottsville High School. She received a nursing scholarship to St. Luke's and Children's Medical Center in Philadelphia and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Mary's career included positions at Atlantic Refining Co., Harrisburg Hospital and the PA Department of Public Welfare, from where she retired. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Navy League, Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Camp Hill Woman's Club and Red Hat Society.
In 1965, the family moved to Camp Hill, where Mary lived for decades. Mary was independent & active and enjoyed dogs (particularly Britannies), gardening, volunteering, Frank Sinatra and Penn State football.
She is survived by two sons – Joseph L. (Cynthia) of Mount Holly, NC and Christopher L. (girlfriend Mirian) of Philadelphia; a daughter – Kathleen Gabler (John) of Etters, PA; and four grandchildren – Molly G. Smith (Steven) of Somerville, MA, Joseph Keefer of Chicago, Emily K. Vernola (Robert) of Durham, NC and Jacob Gabler of Bel Air, MD. Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Tucker of Tempe, AZ.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 25th at 1:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 310 Hertzler Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; https://www.steas.net .
