Mary T. Buckley, 96, formerly of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at her home in Mechanicsburg.
Born on August 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Katherine (Cahill) Conroy. Losing her mother at an early age, she grew up in a multi-generational household with her father, two sisters, grandparents, and aunts in the farming community of Montgomery, NY. She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Frances Yungman and Katherine Ryan.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Ernest W. Buckley, and their six children and spouses, Kathleen Murren (Philip) of Camp Hill, Patricia Ades (Thomas) of Hilton Head, SC, Kevin Buckley (Amanda) of Richmond, VA, Michael Buckley (Eilleen) of Merrick, NY, Nancy McNally (Mark) of Palmyra, PA, and Daniel Buckley (Johanna Kelly) of Sinking Spring, PA. She is also survived by her eighteen grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Patrick, Erin, David (Anastasia Konina), Ryan (Jade), Brian (Chelsea), Colin, Emmett (Emma Steinkraus), Laura (Harrison), Sean, Kristen, Kevin (Katelyn), Isaac, Michaela, Mary Shea, Thomas (Kara), and Daniel, and six great grandchildren, Evan, Owen, Lewis, Cecilia, Claire, and Maxwell.
Mary graduated at the top of her high school class, attended The College of Saint Rose, in Albany, NY, and went on to receive her M.Ed. from Cornell University. She was a dedicated educator and served as the librarian at Trinity High School in Camp Hill for 20 years. Upon her retirement, the school library was named in her honor. Throughout her retirement, she served as a volunteer at Fredrickson Library in Camp Hill.
Mary was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a gifted storyteller and renowned for her ability to organize and celebrate events with family and friends, regularly hosting Thanksgiving dinners for more than 40, and attending every significant event in the lives of her children and grandchildren, often arriving with a fresh batch of her famous, bite-sized, chocolate chip cookies.
A longtime member of St. Theresa Parish in New Cumberland, Mary was a woman of deep faith. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA, with Rev. Michael McFadden as Celebrant. A viewing will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in the Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, PA. Burial will be held following the mass on Wednesday in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the The Mary Buckley Library Fund (Trinity High School, 3601 Simpson Ferry Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011), Harrisburg Notre Dame Scholarship Fund (120 Main Building, Notre Dame, IN 46556), or St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church (1300 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA 17070).
