Lea Rae Sunderland, 76, died September 4, 2016, in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was traveling and shopping with high school classmates. A memorial service is to be held on Saturday, September 17, 11:00 a.m., at the High Center for Worship and Performing Arts at Messiah College, 1 College Ave., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 She was born September 19, 1939, in York, to the late Wayne and Loretta Conrad. Her mother owned and operated Hunt's Candy Store in West York, along with her late step-father, Joseph Hunt, Sr. In her youth, Lea spent many days working at Conrad's Delicatessen in Central Market in York, PA. She graduated from West York High School in 1957. After graduation, she married Kenneth Geiger in 1957. Lea was an accomplished business executive and real estate agent. She was a very loving and giving person who regularly contributed to many organizations including various local & foreign rescue missions, veteran service and Christian organizations. Her interests included family, shopping, traveling, and following the Phillies on the ESPN app. She was the organizing force for the group of girlfriends that would meet for dinners, parties, and times at the Shore to celebrate life and each other's company. One of her favorite pastimes was iguana hunting trips in the Virgin Islands. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother until she passed away at age 77. Lea is survived by her daughter, Natalie Shipman, and husband, Garth Shipman, and three grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, and Isaiah Shipman, three great grandsons, Carson and Cazzidy Shipman, and Landon Geiger; sisters, Rose Gutelius, Joyce Wagner, Cathy Krepps, brother, George Hunt, and their spouses, sister-in-law, Mary Hunt, her brother-in-law, Luther Strouse, and her beloved canine companion, Polly. She was preceded in death by her former husband Klare Sunderland, son, Kenneth Geiger, Jr., grandson , Kenneth Geiger III, sister, Waynette Strouse, and brother, Joseph Hunt.
