Obituary

Kenneth Robert Vollmer, 65, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at his home in Mechanicsburg.

Born on August 18, 1959, in Bayshore, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Betty Jean (Vargas) Vollmer.

He was a 1977 graduate of Brentwood High School. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in psychology from The City University of New York. Ken worked for many years as a stylist and eventually shifted into hotel management until he made a final transition to a caseworker, helping those in need have access to housing and food. Ken had a vivacious personality and generous heart. Ken truly cherished and was devoted to his family. Though he never had children of his own, he cherished his role as an uncle,treating his nieces and nephew as if they were his own. He was a constant source of love, laughter, and support—a best friend and confidant to those closest to him. Also, Ken had a strong faith in God and proudly shared his faith with family. He enjoyed attending church and being involved with the community. He enjoyed hair styling and being able to help people feel good about themselves. Ken previously owned a barber shop called Rockabout Salon in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. Over time, he chose to work at Dramatics Salon and Georgette Klinger in Manhattan, NY where he had cut and styled the hair of many well-known celebrities and public figures. With his talents of hair styling and cutting he would eventually utilize these talents to instruct and teach others at The SUNI College. In his later years of life, Ken enjoyed culinary arts and botany. He owned and cared for numerous plants and was incredibly proud of his collection. Ken also enjoyed cooking and trying various kinds of food. Ultimately, Ken left a legacy of laughs and smiles and deeply loved his family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, bold honesty,and infectious sense of humor. Ken's ability to make people laugh and feel loved left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His long-lasting relationships will live on in the hearts of all his loved ones forever.

Ken is survived by three brothers, Thomas Edwin Vollmer and his wife Margaret, of Bel Air, MD, Keith Edward Vollmer, of Los Lunas, NM, and Scott A. Vollmer, Sr. and his wife Donna, of Milford, PA, a nephew, Scott Andrew Vollmer, Jr., and his wife Rebecca, of Beach Lake, PA, two nieces, Kayla Vollmer, of Milford, PA, and Emily Nicole Vollmer, of Catawissa, PA., and a great-niece, Phoebe Elizabeth Sayles, and a great-nephew, Jackson Scott Coleman.
