Kathryn "Katie" S. Gher 84, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2015 at Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg. She was born in Harrisburg, PA on May 29, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Elvina (Crummrine) Stroup, and she was the widow of Joseph A. Gher, Jr.
Kathryn was a graduate of John Harris High School. She attended the Pierce School of Practical Nursing. She had a long career career with Bell Telephone as a long distance operator where she retired after 37 years. She also worked in private care as a practical nurse. Kathryn attended Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, she was a member of the Telephone Pioneer's, and also a member of Bethany Village Women's Chorus.
Kathryn is survived by two sons, Michael J. Gher and his wife Barbara, of Duncannon, PA, and David J. Gher of Etters, PA. She was also survived by three grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca "Becka", and Megan Gher, and four great grandchildren, Dawn and Dominic Booth, Logan Gher, and Destiny Kerstetter. Kathryn was proceeded in death by a son Thomas J. Gher, and a granddaughter Valerie Gher.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday May 27, 2015 at the Bethany Village Community Room, 335 Wesley Dr., Mechanicsburg, with Rev. Brand Eaton officiating. Burial will be held in the Paxtang Cemetery, Harrisburg.
