Joy Giegucz Walker, 40, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday February 6, 2016, in Camp Hill. Born on July 9, 1975, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Janet Giegucz. Joy attended the University of Pittsburgh and was currently taking classes at Harrisburg Area Community College.
She was an administrative assistant at the Second City Church, Harrisburg. She was also a member of Liberti Church, Harrisburg/Camp Hill.
Joy took great delight in people and took people seriously. She was vigorous in relationships as she was in most aspects of her life. She treated a wide collection of people with fairness and openness—regardless of their station. Full of enthusiasm, gratitude, and pleasure for small and large things, she accepted support from her community and was tenacious in her own commitments. Often she found ways to help and support others, and to give meaningful gifts. Second City Church became functional under her persistent filling of slots for Sunday school teachers, scripture readers, and a long list of weekly functions.
True to her name, she was resilient and endured many circumstances and afflictions continuing to look for ways to solve what was difficult and complicated. These solutions were marked by creativity. The Apostle Paul describes the virtue of being "perplexed but not in despair," and this was true of Joy. She will be missed greatly by the members of Second City Church and Liberti Church who are privileged to bear witness to her mighty striving. No one was as precious to her as her beloved children for whom she was an advocate and in whom she felt great happiness.
She is survived by a son, Ethen Walker, of Mechanicsburg, a daughter, Gillian Walker, of Austin, TX, a sister, Lisa Blaskovich and her husband Tom, of Pittsburgh, a nephew Thomas Blaskovich, of Pittsburgh, her mother-in-law, Darlene Walker, of Red Lion, and her ex-husband, Justin M. Walker, of Austin, TX. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Griffin T. Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Second City Church, 251 Verbeke Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Matt Looloian officiating. A viewing will be held at the church immediately prior on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be handled at the convenience of the family.
