Joseph J. Mack, Sr., 101, of Camp Hill, passed away on Saturday June 18, 2016 at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg.
Born on January 28, 1915 in Olyphant, PA, he was the son of the late Louis and Emma (Pasek) Mack and he was the widower of Leona (Zalewski) Mack.
Joe was retired from the PA Bureau of Employment Security in Harrisburg, where he was a Supervising Accountant. He was a longtime member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill and an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus # 4068. He was a volunteer at Holy Spirit Hospital for over 25 years. He and his wife were involved with several local dance groups, including a polka group and a group that entertained at nursing homes. Joe enjoyed traveling and participated with many Elderhostel Programs in the U.S., England, and Scotland. He was a member of PARSE, Lemoyne Senior Citizens, and the West Shore YMCA. Joe loved playing cards. He was an excellent tennis player, bowler, and golfer. He won his last golf tournament when he was in his 80's. He was a very handy repairman and was always willing to help others.
Joe is survived by a daughter Mary Lou Mack and her husband Bill Finkelstein, of Santa Rosa, CA; his sons Joseph and wife Ginny of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Tom and wife Lesley, of Luray, VA. Three grandchildren, Robert, of Newark, DE; Jeffrey, of Piketown, PA; and Christine Patrowicz, of Medford, NJ. In addition, Joe was blessed with six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, John, and Edward Mack, and four sisters, Emma Evans, Louise Kranick, Rosemary McAuvic, and Helen Mack.
A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at the Church of the Good Shepherd at 10:00 A.M. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Phillip G. Burger as celebrant followed immediately by a reception in the church hall. Burial will be in Camp Hill Borough Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
