John Wilson Iii's Obituary
John Barclay Wilson, III, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at his residence with his loving wife at his side.
He was a retired attorney who had been the Executive Assistant to the Insurance Commissioner of PA, also Assistant Counsel for the PA Department of Transportation, Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Counsel for the PA Public Utility Commission.
John received his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Penn State University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Duke University School of Law where he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi, Legal Fraternity. He was admitted to the PA Bar in 1964.
John was a former member and vice chairman of the East Pennsboro Recreation Board, a charter member of the West Creek Area Lions Club, Corporation President of the PA Theta Corporation, Life Member of the Penn State Alumni Association, Member of the Nittany Lion Club and a member of the Antique Boat Association of Clayton, NY.
John was born in Utica, NY, the son of the late John and Eleanor (Foote) Wilson. He grew up in the Hobart and Unadilla areas of New York state until his parents moved to PA in the fifties. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1954.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Wilson Hantel and brother-in-law, Wilbur Hantel.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra Struble Wilson; son, John Wilson, IV; daughter, Susan (Wilson) Zimmerman; son-in-law, Dr. Lawrence Zimmerman; four grandchildren, Jacob Zimmerman, Elizabeth Zimmerman, Mark Zimmerman, and Jennifer (Zimmerman) Halfond; and several great-grandchildren.
John will be remembered as an intelligent, interesting, funny, kind, and generous man. He was highly esteemed as a friend, a lover of sports car racing and his beloved 1961 Mahogany Cris-Craft Ski Boat.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
