Obituary

John H. Reading, 76, of East Berlin, PA, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at his residence.

Born September 25, 1947, in Danville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William and Jean (Zimmerman) Reading. He was married to the love of his life Natsuko (Kawahara) Reading for almost 53 years.

John graduated from Valley Forge High School and completed college courses at Harrisburg Community College and at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. He had retired from the Air Force, with the rank of Master Sergeant, after serving for 21 years. After retirement from the Air Force, John was an investigator with the rank of Lieutenant at the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

John was an avid autograph collector, fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies and Penn State football team, loved history and learning and was very interested in the history of the Holocaust and the Civil War, and had a large collection of books related to the "Mobsters" and loved the television show, The Sopranos. He liked cooking Italian food and grilling. He adored his pet dog, Jiro.

John is survived by his wife, Natsuko Reading of East Berlin, PA, three daughters Mary Reading of San Antonio, TX, Ann Reading-Crowther and her husband Jeremy Crowther of Middletown, PA, and Jean Reading and her partner Matthew Ashenfelder of Chicago, IL, three grandchildren Sophie Crowther, Jack Crowther and Miki Ashenfelder, his sister Barbara Phillips and her husband Jeff Phillips of Camp Hill, PA, and niece and nephew Amy Phillips of Danville, CA and Daniel Phillips of Eden, UT.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 24, 2024, in the Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

The burial will be held privately in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
