John J. Hoyer, Jr., 84, of Camp Hill, passed away on Monday June 2, 2014 at his home. Born on April 15, 1930 in Altoona, he was the son of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Taylor) Hoyer, Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Huntingdon High School and a 1957 Graduate of Juniata College. John was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army who served in the Korean War. He received the Germany Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a retired Budget Analyst for the Dept of Labor & Industry, Bureau of Employment Security. He was a Life Member of Knights of Columbus Council 4068, Camp Hill, American Legion, Frank P. Harmon Post 24, VFW Post 1754, and Elks Lodge, all of Huntingdon. Retired Public Employees of PA, AFSCME Chapter 13. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd since 1966. John Is survived by his wife, Shirley (Gregory) Hoyer, three sons, Stephen Hoyer and his wife Christine, of Pittsburgh; Mark Hoyer and his wife Gena, of Youngwood; Gregory Hoyer and his fiancée Karyl Marks, of Enola. One daughter, Joani Chizmar and her husband Steve, of Mechanicsburg. Six grandchildren, Matthew, Danielle, Kayla, Colin, Abigale, and Nate. One sister, Janice Fodor and her husband Michael of Wheaton, IL. Several nieces, nephews and their respective families. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday June 6, 2014 in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, with Rev. Paul C. Helwig as Celebrant. A visitation will be held in the Church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the mass. Burial will be held with full military honors in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. John's family would like to thank family members, friends, and Hospice of Central PA for their excellent care and compassion during John's illness.
