John Bennett's Obituary
John F. Bennett, 85, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday March 21, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born on July 1, 1929 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Webster W. and Caroline (O'Brian) Bennett.
He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, Harrisburg, and a US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. John was a radioman on the U.S.S. Norris. He was a retired corrections officer but most recently had worked as the Carrousel Operator at Hershey Park. John was a very active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill. He was a past lector and member of the Legion of Mary. John was a big fan of Notre Dame Football and the Phillies. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris (Wevodau) Bennett, of Mechanicsburg; a son, John K. Bennett, of Mechanicsburg; three daughters, Michelle L. Curry and her husband Scott, of Anthem, AZ; Noelle S. Billand and her husband Barry, of Littlestown; Yvonne B. McDermott and her husband Paul, of Shamokin; a brother, Herman Bennett, Somers Point, NJ; twelve grandchildren, Michael Fortuna (Tanya), Seth Fortuna, Holly Johns (Joe), Matthew Bennett (Jody), Nicholas Bennett, Bennett Smith, Clay Smith, Michael Billand, Brittany Billand, Kevin Billand, Sam Billand, and his precious princess Mackenzie Smith; four great grandchildren, Zoe, Piper, Abigail, and Ryland; and several nieces nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday March 26, 2015 in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, with the Rev. Paul C. Helwig as celebrant. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:30 P.M. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, is handling funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bishop Joseph T. Daley Fund, Diocese of Harrisburg, 4800 Union Deposit Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17111
