Obituary

Joan Taranowski, 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg. Born on August 28, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of William and Marion (Gorz) Westfall, and she was the widow of Edmund "Terry" C. Taranowski, who passed away only nine days before she did. Joan was a graduate of Dominican Commercial Catholic High School, Jamaica, NY. She was a retired Teller and Account Representative at Reliance Federal Savings in Albertson, NY. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill, where she served as a eucharistic minister. She and her husband participated in the church's Pre-Cana program; counseling couples who were soon to be married. Joan was a longtime volunteer at Holy Spirit Hospital and served on the board of elections for Camp Hill Borough. She is survived by a daughter, Laura McCormick and her husband Robert, of Carlisle; two sons, Gregory Taranowski and his wife Kimberly, of DeLand, FL, and Paul Taranowski and his wife Sherry, of Madison, WI; a sister, Barbara Richardson and her husband Andrew, of Whitestone, NY; five grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Ryan, and Brady McCormick, and Victoria Taranowski; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Brayden McCormick; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her loyal cats, Annie and Betsy. A mass of Christian burial for Joan and Edmund will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2020 in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 E. Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, with Rev. Neil S. Sullivan as Celebrant. Viewings for both will be held in the church on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the mass. A graveside service for both Joan and Edmund will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with military honors for Edmund. The service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 22, 2021. All are invited to attend the graveside service. Please meet directly at the cemetery Friday the 22nd at 10:30am. Enter the main entrance of the cemetery and turn right just before the office where the sign says ALL BURIALS.
