Obituary

James Stuart Geisel (Jim), 74, of Harrisburg, PA passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 Jim was born in Harrisburg on April 12, 1940 to the late Cameron Meade Geisel, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Zink Geisel. He attended Harrisburg Academy and Mercersburg Academy and attended Penn State and was proud Delta Tau Delta he received a bachelor's degree in economics from Bethany College in 1962. He was married to the late Barbara McKay Geisel. Throughout his life he enjoyed watching or playing sports, golf and tennis at the Harrisburg Country Club, soccer at Mercersburg where he was nicknamed Goose or a game of football on the Ridge. He was Harrisburg City Boy Tennis Champion. A longtime member of the Enola Sportsman Club and Enola American Legion Post 751, where he captained the Buggers dart team. Jim had an infinite love of the outdoors and cherished the natural beauty life has to offer. He was an advocate for preserving the integrity of the environment. He was often found traversing the waters fly fishing or enjoying the company of good friends camping. He spent a life offering financial advice working as a registered representative and vice president for Butcher & Singer/Wachovia Securities. He was a friend to many in the communities of Harrisburg and Paxtonville, PA and would go out of way to help when it was needed. Jim cherished frequenting the "Geisel Cabin" (Paxtonville) and hosted the beloved annual Weiner fest. Jim is survived by two sons and a daughter; James Geisel, Jr., of Charlotte, NC; Jeffrey Geisel of Haverford, PA and Sarah Starr of Ardmore, PA. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Lauren Geisel, Kellie Geisel, Justin Geisel, Clayton Geisel and Lydia Geisel. He is also survived by his bother, C. Meade Geisel. A funeral service will be held graveside at the East Harrisburg Cemetery, 2260 Herr St., Harrisburg, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday June 13, 2014. A celebration of life will be held following the service at the Harrisburg Country Club, 401 Fishing Creek Valley Rd., Harrisburg at 4:00 p.m.
