Jack Davis Smawley, died peacefully surrounded by family at Bethany Village, on Tuesday November 18, 2014. He was 94 years old.
Born on August 5, 1920 in Mount Union, PA, he was the son of the late John and Myrtle (Davis) Smawley.
He was a graduate of Lock Haven State University and Penn State where he received his Master's in Education. He is a retired U.S. Army Major, having served combat duty in WWII and the Korean War. He retired in 1984 from the State of Pennsylvania, where he held various roles in personnel and training. Once retired, he enjoyed golf, travel, and time with his family. He is a past Commander of the Camp Hill American Legion, Past President of the local chapter of AARP, and past Counsel Member of Bethany Village. He and his wife are longtime members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Irmgard H. (Bauke) Smawley, his three children, Army Colonel George Smawley, Susan (Smawley) Maddocks, Barbara Ostendorf, four grandchildren, and a sister, Jean Milsop.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday November 24, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St., Camp Hill, PA with Pastor John H. Brock officiating. Interment with military honors will be held immediately following the service in the Church Columbarium. The family will also receive friends in the church following the interment.
