Howard C. Beane, 86, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness, on Wednesday August 2, 2017, at the West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Howard was born May 2, 1931, in Boston, MA, to the late Rev. Roy H. and Beatrice C (Cooper) Beane. Howard was a graduate Wyoming Seminary Prep School, Kingston, PA. Following that he attended and graduated Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA where he was active with both the wrestling and football teams, and a member of the CHI PHI fraternity. He then headed to Boston University School of Medicine, Boston MA. After graduating he served a four-year residency at Buffalo General Hospital specializing in Urology. Howard also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force as a Medical Corps Captain.

While serving his internship at a hospital, Howard met the love of his life Shirley (Thomson) Beane. They were married in September of 1958 and were married for 59 years. Howard was blessed with a son, Dr. Jeffery Beane and his wife Susan, of Greensboro, NC; two daughters, Sharon Gallagher, and her husband Brent, of Dillsburg, PA; and Linda Beane, of Barrington, RI. In addition to his wife and children, Howard is survived by 8 grandchildren, Nicholas, Lauren, Emily, and Kristen Beane; Haley, Dylan, and Casey Hunt, and Meghan Gallagher. Two brothers, Ralph and Rev. Earl and wife Millie Beane, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Howard was preceded in death by a brother Paul, and a son-in-law Herb Hunt.

Throughout his long career as a Medical Doctor, Howard worked for hospitals throughout Central PA. He was the Chief of the Urology department at Harrisburg, Polyclinic, and Holy Spirit Hospitals. He was also a Clinical Faculty Surgeon within the Urology department at Hershey Medical Center. He also had a private practice for over 30 years.

Howard was the President of Holy Spirit Hospital Medical Staff, President of the Urological Association of PA, and the President of the Society of Diplomates of Harrisburg.

Even with a busy work schedule, Howard valued his time spent with his children, and later in life his grandchildren. He was very active in their lives and attended as many activities as he could. To him education was most important and this was a value that he instilled in his family.

After retiring from private practice in 1996, Howard became an avid bicyclist. During his retirement, he pedaled over 115,000 miles in 49 of the 50 states, and 26 foreign countries. He liked reading and enjoyed non-fiction, American History, and especially books about Lincoln and the Civil War.

He was a member of Camp Hill United Methodist Church since 1965, a member of the Harrisburg Chapter of Civil War Round Table, Harrisburg Bicycle Club, Lincoln Fellowship of PA and the Lincoln Forum.

A celebration of Howard's life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Camp Hill United Methodist Church, Camp Hill, PA, with Pastor Tom Willard officiating. Military Honors will be held in the church following the service.
