We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, Helen Greene, on May 15th, 2024. Helen Evelyn (Baldwin) Greene was born on May 11, 1937 in Lewistown PA. She was the daughter of the late George Simeon Baldwin and Bertha Evelyn (Schneider) Baldwin. The Baldwin family was highly respected members of the community committed to improving the quality of life for the entire community within which they lived and served.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William Johnston Greene to whom she was married for 47 love filled years. Their journey together began when they were married in Las Vegas Nevada on April 30th 1960. Until death did do them part. The various homes that they made for themselves and their family were always warm and inviting to their family and friends. Anyone who found themselves in their embrace knew they were safe and loved.

Helen is survived by her children: sons Stephen Johnston Greene (wife - Joanna) of Anderson Indiana and William Scott Greene (wife - Wendy) of Mechanicsburg PA, a Sister Betsy Baker (husband – Ralph, children – Carolyn (CA) and Kevin (CA)) of Lewistown PA, a brother-in-law John Greene (wife – Marsha, children - Johnny and Matt) of Enola PA and three granddaughters: Anna and Katherine Greene (Stephen & Joanna) and Daysha Norris (Scott & Wendy). She was also blessed to have countless nieces, nephews and cousins spread throughout Pennsylvania and the United States. She touched many hearts.

Helen was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street Camp Hill.

Graduated from Lewistown PA High School in 1955.

Graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1959 with a BS in Secondary Education. Graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1969 with Master of Science Degree.

Helen taught Math during the 60's in California. She returned to the East to participate in an academic year National Science Foundation Scholarship program at Penn State following which she taught math in Camp Hill retiring in 1983. She was employed at the Naval Base in Mechanicsburg at the Fleet Material Support Office (FMSO) as a Computer Trainer, Mathematician and Software Developer and later at the Naval Supply (NAVSUP) Systems.

Command Headquarters as the Manager for the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) at Sea Program, retiring from Federal Service in 1999. She was known as the "eyeglass lady" coordinating the base-wide collection of over 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses and related items for the Tri-County Association for the Blind. She received many awards during her federal career concluding with a Federal 100 Technology Award for the ATMs-at-Sea Smart Card Program.

She particularly enjoyed playing bridge, singing with the Bethany Village Women's Chorus and following Penn State Football, New York Jets football and professional golf.

During Penn State football games it was not uncommon to see a cutout of Joe Paterno standing in the corner watching the game with us.

Affiliations: Mortar Board Honor Society, former PIAA Swimming and Diving Official; member and former officer of National Association Active and Retired Federal Employees(NARFE) Mechanicsburg Chapter 1816; Life Member of Penn State Alumni Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M on Thursday, May 23, 2024 in the Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, PA, with Chaplain Brand Eaton officiating. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. An additional viewing will be held in Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home - Woodlawn Location, 200 North Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044, on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 12:00 P.M until 2:00 P.M., with a graveside service to be held following the viewing, in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, PA.
