Dr. Hazel J (Brobst) Brown, 95, of Camp Hill, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Country Meadows Retirement Community-Mechanicsburg with her daughter at her bedside.

Hazel was born November 16, 1929, in Sunbury, PA a daughter of the late Clarence Edwin and Grace (Ketler) Brobst. She was married for 67 years to Robert F. Brown who preceded her in death on July 7, 2017. Hazel was a 1947 graduate of Sunbury High School, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Susquehanna University in 1951, her Master of Arts degree from Bucknell University in 1958, and her Doctor of Education degree from the Pennsylvania State University (School Psychology) in 1975. She was granted an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Susquehanna University in 2003.

Hazel retired from the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) in 1998 as a Professor Emerita of Psychology after having served in various academic positions there since 1971. She served as teacher, counselor, director of guidance, and school psychologist with the West Shore School District from 1955 to 1971. She was an advisor to the West Shore High School class of 1959 with whom she continued regular contact over the years. Hazel was also a licensed psychologist maintaining an active private practice well into her 90s.

Hazel received a number of honors during her career including the Susquehanna University Alumni Service Award and the Shirley P. Freedman Community Service Award. She was a board member of the Children's Dyslexia Center, and a member of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, the VFW Auxiliary, and the West Shore Country Club.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret B. Korper of Rochester, NY and Rachel E. Einsig of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Hazel is survived by her daughter Joyce A. Brown of Mechanicsburg, PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 509 Hummel Avenue, Lemoyne. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in Kirk's Garden Columbarium, Camp Hill, PA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hazel J. Brobst and Robert F. Brown Scholarship, Susquehanna University, 514 University Ave, Selinsgrove, PA 17870, which gives preference to students from Cumberland County, or to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 509 Hummel Ave, Lemoyne, PA 17043.
