Obituary

George J. Lawrence, 93, of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. He was born on September 17, 1931 in Hazleton, PA to the late John G. and Mary V. (Garstka) Lawrence. He married the late Imelda (Rusnock) Lawrence on December 27, 1958, in St. Mary of Assumption Church, McAdoo, PA. They were married 6 days shy of 66 years. George received his bachelorrsquos degree in mechanical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He had been employed with RCA, GE and AMP as a design engineer and standards representative. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Camp Hill, PA. George was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #10685 and Bishop J.W. Shanahan Assembly #917 and, while residing in Rhode Island, he served as a Grand Knight, District Deputy and Faithful Navigator. He was also a member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 53 where he was a Coxswain, AUXOP member and Flotilla Commander. He enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds, listening to talk radio, and watching Penn State football. He is survived by his daughter, Ann I. Lawrence of Bethlehem, PA and five brothers and sisters: Paul Lawrence of Woodbridge, CT Robert (Florence) Lawrence of Herdon, VA Rosemary Urillo of Hazleton, PA Benedicta (Lawrence) Trubilla of Allentown, PA and JoAnn (Lawrence) Wilcrout of Lafayette, IN. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters: Helen Bailey, John Lawrence, Frances Lawrence, Frances Rita Lawrence, and Fredrick Lawrence. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 E. Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA with Rev. Neil S. Sullivan as Celebrant. A viewing will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the mass in the church. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, McAdoo, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
