Obituary

Frederick C. Newton MD, 77, of Camp Hill, passed away July 4, 2019, at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born May 29, 1942, in Hinton, WV, he is the son of the late Stanley E. and Leonidas Jane (Gum) Newton. Fred was the 1960 Valedictorian of his graduating class at Hinton High School. He graduated from West Virginia University, Phi Beta Kappa in 1964 and completed his M.D. in 1968, with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors. After his internship, he entered the US Navy as a flight surgeon serving during the Vietnam War. He returned to Harrisburg, PA, to complete his residency at Polyclinic and Hershey Medical Centers and went on to become the Chief of the Radiation Oncology Department at Pinnacle Health Hospitals. He finished his career at Urology of Central PA. Outside of work Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, reading and politics. Fred is survived by his wife of 49 years Susan (Trace) Newton; his daughter Kara (Newton) Fleshman and husband Brett of N.C.; a brother Sam Newton and wife Connie; and his grandchildren Maren, Livia, Whitney, and Jamie, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his son Michael C. Newton, and his sister Jan Newton. A visitation (with a musical tribute) to honor Fred will be held from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA. Burial with Military Honors will follow the Celebration in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Fred's honor to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
