Florence Connolly Riordan, age 93, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Oaks at Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, PA, surrounded by her family.
Florence was born in the Bronx in New York City on November 11, 1923, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Marion Connolly. She resided in Camp Hill since 1954.
Florence lived a full and joyful life. She was a loving wife to her husband, Bill, until his death in 1988. She was "the best mother in the world" to her children. She was a caring, generous friend to many. As a devout Catholic, she was a long-time parishioner of Good Shepherd Church in Camp Hill and saw all seven of her children graduate from Good Shepherd School, having at least one child enrolled in the school continuously for 25 years.
Florence was also an avid bridge player and organized bridge marathons twice a year in recent years. She was a strong, spirited woman who truly believed in the love of her family and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, after 41 years of marriage; her two sisters, Marion and Vera; her dear cousin Claire; her sweet niece Charlotte; recently, her son-in-law, Michael Foust; and many dear friends.
Florence is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses: Florence and George Hess of Ashburn, VA; Patti Riordan of Ponte Vedra, FL; Marie Foust of Clearwater, FL; Billy and Kathy Riordan of Palm Coast, FL; Ken and Cindy Riordan of Palm Coast, FL; Lorraine and Jeff Fleming of Mechanicsburg, PA; and Greg Riordan of Jacksonville, FL.
Remembering their funny, caring Nana are her grandchildren, Geordie (and Mary) Hess of Leesburg, VA; Kelly (and Chris) Moskal of Leesburg, VA; Patrick Riordan of Baltimore, MD; Danny Riordan of Griffith, IN; Ruby (and Tyler) Rhoads of Mechanicsburg, PA; Brittany (and Geoff) Snyder of Mechanicsburg, PA; Gregory (and Mary) Foust of Mechanicsburg, PA; Jon Ballard of Palm Coast, FL; Olivia Peters of Gardners, PA; and eleven great-grandchildren.
If you wish to honor the fun, loving and caring soul of Florence, there are a couple things you can do: Raise a glass and honor her with a toast and a prayer at the family dinner table; smile as you think of that laugh of pure joy that she had, that she managed, no matter what, even in her final days.
If you wish to make a contribution in her name, you may donate to The Church of the Good Shepherd Building Fund, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011 or at http://www.goodshepherd-parish.com/.
