Elizabeth "Betty" R. Geisel, 105, of Camp Hill, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at her home.

Born on September 9, 1919, in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George K. and Lillian Ruth (Billet) Reist, and she was the widow of William H. Geisel who passed away in 2002. Her father was famous for the Reist Dance Boat that operated in the summers on the Susquehanna River. Betty spent much of her early life canoeing and making the most of the river. Betty was able to trace her paternal family roots back to the Mennonites of Germany who came to America and settled in Lancaster County in the 1720s.

Betty was a graduate of the former Seiler School for girls in Harrisburg, now Harrisburg Academy. She went on to attend the Bishop-Lee School for Acting, Boston, MA. She was a member of a Women's Investment Club (WICS) and Grace United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. She enjoyed reading. Her favorite books to read were Biographies. She loved spending time working in her garden growing roses, marigolds and her favorite, zinnias. Betty traveled with her family often. Summers in Atlantic City and Ocean City, NJ. Trips to New England, especially her love of Grafton, Vt. and also Canada, and winter trips in March to Palm Beach, FL. Later she travelled with her sister Nancy on 3 trips to Europe: Switzerland, Paris, and London. She enjoyed spending weekends and doing things with her son, and Bill's foster children, and also relished the companionship of his Cat Crew.

She is survived by her son, William R. Geisel, of Elizabethtown, PA, and a sister, Nancy (Reist) Preis, of Mechanicsburg, PA.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Harry Preis.

Betty experienced a vast and enriching life and saw many changes.The troops were just coming home from World War I and Woodrow Wilson was President when she was born.She was a child during the Roaring Twenties, and a teenager during the Depression. Radio and the automobile were new trends as was something called moving pictures. Woman could not vote when she was born.

All services for Betty will be private and burial will be handled at the convenience of the family in East Harrisburg Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
