Eleanor R. C. Bailey, 95, a resident of Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at UPMC-Harrisburg. She was born September 15, 1927, in New Kingston, PA, to the late Dale M. and Romayne I. (Hopp) Ritter.
Eleanor was a 1945 graduate of Carlisle High School and a 1949 graduate of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, N.J. A portion of her life was devoted to choral music. After graduating from Westminster Choir College, she became active in choral music in the community, where she sang with the Grantham Oratorio Society. At Messiah College she was involved at the onset of the Harrisburg Singers, was a charter member of the Central Pennsylvania Oratorio Singers, and after moving to Bethany Village, she was a member of the Women's Chorus.
She was a 50-year member of the Grace United Methodist Church, State Street, Harrisburg, where she was a soprano soloist for 25 years under the direction of Dr. Robert Clippinger, organist, and choir director. She was most recently a member of Derry Presbyterian Church in Hershey, where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir.
She taught music for several years in the elementary grades of the Cumberland Valley School District and for 10 years was an employee of the PA Medical Society in Harrisburg and retired from there.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracey Campbell Potteiger, Eleanor's first husband, Charles A. Campbell, father of her children, and her second husband, David P. Bailey, who was also a soloist at Grace United Methodist Church, a grandson, Collin C. Campbell, and her devoted and loving companion in recent years Richard (Dick) H. Cromer
Eleanor's survivors include her son, Kevin Ritter Campbell and his wife Monica of FL, granddaughters, Chelsea A. Campbell and Carly E. Campbell of FL, a great granddaughter, Sophia Marie Campbell of TN, a sister, Chris (Ritter) Haverstick and her husband Jeffrey of Willow Street, PA, two nephews, Nathan and Keith, one niece, Hilary, stepchildren, Stephen and Laurie Bailey of York.
Burial will be private and handled at the convenience of the family in Longsdorf Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM in the Richard D. Rife Center at Bethany Village, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Marlin Snider, officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill.
Memorials can be made to the Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
