Obituary

Dr. Herb Jordan, Jr., longtime Camp Hill resident and Harrisburg area physician passed away on February 12,age 92. Dr Jordan was born November 20, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pa. to Herb and Clara (Ehret) Jordan. At a young age he moved with his parents to Hanover, Pa. where his grandfather, father and uncle founded the Hanover Hardware, Co. He graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1939 and Bucknell University in 1943, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and their intercollegiate boxing team. In 1946, Dr Jordan earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia under the Army Specialized Training Program. After completing his internship at Harrisburg General Hospital in 1947, he served two years as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps stationed at Fort McKinley, Manila, Philippine Islands. Dr Jordan returned to Harrisburg Hospital and completed residencies in surgery and OB/GYN. He was board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He held academic appointments at several institutions including Hahnemann Hospital, Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing, and Medical College of Penn State University, Hershey,Pa. Dr Jordan was a past President of Harrisburg Hospital Medical Staff and the Central Pa. Academy of Medicine and past Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at Harrisburg Hospital He practiced for many years with Jordan, McCall and Associates and was later a consulting physician at E.G. Frederick Health Center in Millersburg, Pa. Dr Jordan was a member of the AMA and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Herb enjoyed traveling, and visiting many countries around the world. He also enjoyed skiing, tennis, and games of ice hockey with his children and their friends. He especially enjoyed his time at his family cottage along the banks of the Conewago Creek in Dick's Dam, Pa. There he and Lauretta hosted many memorable gatherings for family and friends. He also enjoyed summers on the Jersey shore. There his family spent cherished time with their lifelong friends. He had a special gift of connecting with people from all walks of life, once he met you, he would never forget that friendship. Herb was a long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill ,the West Shore Country Club and the West Shore Elks Club. He will be sadly missed by all. Herb is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Lauretta ( Sweigart),son HerbIII and his wife Shelia, and son Bob of Hanover, daughter Laurie of Portland, OR, and daughter Jan Hoffner and her husband Glenn, of Halifax. His six grandchildren; Natalie Sutcliffe, Casey Jordan, Nicholas Jordan, Zackary Jordan, Grant Hoffner, and Rebekah Hoffner and five great-grandchildren brought him great joy. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 19, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street Camp Hill. Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park. Viewing will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. in the church library. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Home Service Program, PA Elks Major Projects, Inc. P.O.
