Donovan Loomis Olsen, 85, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away at Trevecca Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Nashville, Tennessee on January 23, 2020.
Born May 30, 1934 he is the son of the late Edmund and Kathryn Loomis Olsen.
In his professional life Don was a civil engineer in Pennsylvania and Maryland, reservist for the Army Corps of Engineers and a retired Army Colonel, serving at Fort Meade and the Pentagon. In his personal life, Don was an actor with Theatre Harrisburg and Little Theater of Mechanicsburg, an avid member of the Harrisburg Austin Healey Sports and Touring Club, a loud and proud supporter of the Detroit Lions, University of Minnesota and Michigan State sports teams, a lover of all animals furry and a magical supporter of his girls' trips to Walt Disney World. He never met a Healy he would not retrieve, a sports team he would not fully cheer for – regardless of their record – and an animal he would not save.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet (McGuire), daughters Holly (Glenn) Perry and Heather (Robert) Bogdal, foster son Matthew Jacobs, grandchildren Edward "Ted" Perry, Zoe (Shane) Bogdal Michaels, Nathan Perry, Dakota "Cody" Bogdal, Logan Bogdal and great-grandson Sullivan Michaels.
A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, with the Rev. Gregg Morris officiating. A visitation will be held in the church from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, PA.
