Donald G. Weitzel, 81, passed away on Friday December 5, 2014 at his home in New Cumberland.
Born on December 29, 1932 in Camp Hill, he was the son of the late George W. and Clara (Bushey) Weitzel and he was the widower of Marie (August) Weitzel.
Don was a graduate of Camp Hill High School and was honorably discharged from the US Navy. He served during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and served on the USS Blackwood. He was the president of Weitzel Insurance in Camp Hill. He started his insurance career working with the Late Senator George N. Wade. He was a 32nd degree Mason at the Eureka-West Shore Lodge No. 302, Mechanicsburg. Don was a member of the Lower Allen VFW. He was known for his extra ordinary sense of humor. He loved to travel with his wife and spending time at his home in Pine Grove Furnace State Park over the past 50 years. He would spend his winters in Pompano Beach Florida.
He is survived by his son, Donald G. Weitzel, Jr., of New Cumberland; his two daughters, Lee Ann Meier, of Mechanicsburg, and Kelly M. Schneider, of Jupiter, FL. Five grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three sisters, Janet "Wheaty" Hartman, Zula Coombe, and Patricia Baughman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday December 13, 2014 in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St., Camp Hill, with Pastor John H. Brock officiating. A visitation with the family will be held in the church on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be held following the service in St. John's Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
