Donald E. Markley, 86, of Camp Hill, passed away at 4:20am Thursday June 23, 2016 in the arms of his loving wife and family in his home.
Born on July 8, 1929 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Jacob J. and Ada M. (Laird) Markley.
Don was a graduate of John Harris High School. He had an incurable thirst for reading and knowledge. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War in the European Command Intelligence and Military Police School. He was an Intelligence Specialist in Russian Language. Don was retired after 47 years from Pennsy Supply. He was a Ruling Elder in the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, Chairman of the Property and Maintenance Committee and one of the church's W.O.R.M.S. He was Past President of Capital City Polka Dancers and was the Camp Hill Personal Tax Assessor. He volunteered at the West Shore YMCA. Don and Ann participated in a memorable trip delivering medical supplies to Moldova and the Ukraine. Don and his wife Ann traveled extensively in Europe surviving on Don's fluency in Russian and German and Ann's smile.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann (Morris) Markley; sons William of Camp Hill and Peter and his wife Melissa of Mechanicsburg; daughters Michelle Rubin and her husband Jason and Karen Will and her husband Brent both of Enola; grandchildren Mya and Asher Markley of Camp Hill, Nathan, Lily and Claire Markley of Mechanicsburg, Ryan and Tyler Rubin, and Ella, Callie and Carson Will of Enola.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Laird Markley and a sister, Emily Wise.
A viewing will be held from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday June 27, 2016 in the Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday June 28th in the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jack Craft and Rev. Anne Myers officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial with military honors will be private in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
