Obituary

Our beloved Carolyn Phyllis Beatty, 86, of Enola, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center following complications after surgery.

She was born August 16, 1937, in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Irel Bain Caton and Phyllis May (Bryan) Caton. She married the Rev. Dr. Robert Beatty, Lt. Col. Ret. who preceded her in death on August 9, 2011, after 57 joyous years of marriage and partnership.

She received her associate degree in Secretarial Business from Boston University. She was a skilled stenographer, but left that life behind to be a military wife, homemaker, loving mother, and doting grandmother. Carolyn was a member of the Christian Women's Club, served many years with Prison Fellowship ministering to inmates, and supported many missionaries around the world. Most recently, she attended Wednesday night bible studies at River of God Church in Enola. She was an avid and voracious reader, talented church organist, and cross stitcher who loved cracking witty and sarcastic jokes.

Carolyn leaves behind three generations of family. Her eldest son, Robert Russell Beatty, is the husband of Catherine, and they have two children: Eric (Savanah) Beatty and Sarah (Cody) Beatty. She has another son Daniel Clinton Beatty, who is husband to Victoria, and they have two children: Aleksandr and Alina. Her eldest daughter, Melissa Lynn McGrath, has three children: Melody (Robert) Knoll, Veronica (Devin) Elie, and Robin (Luis) McGrath. Her youngest, Alicia Felicity Gluckman, is wife to E. David. She is also fondly remembered by her three great-grandchildren: Alfred, Brandon, and Madilyn.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Thomas L. Caton.
