Barry Lee Gates, Sr., 74, of Harrisburg, passed away on Monday July 29, 2019 at his home. Born on April 1, 1945 in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of Doris J. (Tuptanoski) Gates and the late Donald R. Gates, Sr. Barry was a 1963 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School and went on to attend Messiah College. He was a veteran of the US Airforce and was a retired mechanic from Penske Trucking Company. Barry was a loving father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, Barry L. Gates, Jr; Timothy S. Gates; and Christopher M. Gates; two daughters, Cheri L. Appleby and Dori J. Kennedy; nine grandchildren, Eric, Sharlene, Kourtney, Kyra, Gabrielle, Brett, Brooke, Josh, and Zac, two great grandchildren, Eli and Ashton; a brother, Donald R. Gates, Jr.; and a sister, Patricia A. Herneisey. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Tom Gates. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday August 3, 2019, in Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Rd., Camp Hill.
